3 CLASS SESSION!

Booze Theory I

This workshop is designed for students who have no experience with music theory or who are looking for a from the beginning survey workshop. This workshop will explore the basics of sound from sound waves to the overtone series, examine how physics, culture and architecture have shaped and defined harmony in western culture (and look at how this contrasts with musical traditions in other cultures), learn about the development of musical notation and will work to gain mastery over the musical concepts of pitch, rhythm, intervals, key signatures, and major and minor scales. Students are not required to bring instruments to this class, but a pen and notepad is highly recommended.

Booze Theory II

This workshop will build upon the concepts learned in Booze Theory I. Students are expected to be comfortable with the concepts of intervals, key signatures, and major and minor scales. This workshop will learn to build chords (major, minor, dominant, diminished and augmented), examine chord progressions, and look at the relationship between melody and harmony in western music. This workshop will also touch on other musical traditions within the western musical canon (counterpoint, atonal, serial and experimental music and jazz theory). Students are not required to bring instruments to this class, but a pen and notepad is highly recommended.
