Upright Bass Advanced: Week #2
List of Goals for the week:
Warm Up: Tuning using harmonics
Scale: G major 2 octave scale
Repertoire: Alright hear this
Paragraph summary of what was covered in class
In class we worked on tuning using harmonics, playing a 2 octave g major scale, the indian 4 note exercise, recognizing shapes of TRIADS in the fingerboard, what a “walking bass line” is, and how to count 16th notes (One Ee And Ah Two Ee And Ah, etc).
Assignment for next week
For next week continue working on getting comfortable with tuning using harmonics and playing the G major 2 octave scale. Work on the Beastie Boys bass line, and fill out the first half of the walking bass line worksheet, using only chord tones. As a reminder a chord tone is the Root, Third, Fifth, and Seventh. The THIRD is 4 half-steps above the root, the FIFTH is 7 half-above the root, and the DOMINANT SEVENTH is 2 half-steps BELOW the root. Be sure to write in sharps or flats as they come up in your bass line.
How to Practice this at home
Practice the beastie boys bass line slowly ( you can start with the play along supplied here). Write in your fingering.
