BANTAM STUDIOS VIOLA PROGRAM

Bantam Studios' viola program gives adult students who have never touched a viola before an opportunity to explore the wide range of playing opportunities on the instrument.  Over the seven-class curriculum, students will learn how to master 1st - 5th positions, learn to play with clear tone and good intonation, learn advanced bowing techniques, and will have the experience of improvising and playing in an ensemble with their classmates.  This two-year course is designed to teach students the necessary skills to play in a beginner's classical ensemble, or learn how to sit in on a jam session.

COURSE CURRICULUM

VIOLA Beginner I
Course LeveL: 101.1

Viola Beginner I is the first part of a two-part introductory course that teaches the basic set-up fundamentals of playing the viola. At the end of this 8-week course students will have learned how to hold their viola, hold their bows, play the A Major Scale in first position, establish good posture playing while standing, be able to make a clean and solid tone on the E and A strings, and will perform a TBD piece from memory at the recital.

Techniques Covered: 
D Major Scale, Bowing + Playing, Ear Training, Instrument Tuning, Instrument Care, Bow Care, Instrument Hold, Bow Hold, How to play in time with a group.
