Viola Beginner II

Viola Beginner II: Week #5

Week #5

List of Goals for the week:

  • Warm Up: Hoedown Rhythm

  • Scale: C Scale

  • Technique: Double Stop Scale

  • Repertoire: Old Joe Clark all together in hoedown rhythm and first phrase in double stops

Paragraph summary of what was covered in class

This week we added the double stop scale (which is a combination of both fingered double stop exercises), put all of Old Joe Clark together in hoedown rhythm, and added double stops to the first phrase. The challenge for practicing this week is not to get overwhelmed and put things together too quickly. Keep things separate and work on one thing at a time.

Assignment for next week

Comfortably play the double stop scale

Comfortably play through all of Old Joe Clark in Hoedown Rhythm

Comfortably play through the first phrase of Old Joe Clark with Double Stops

How to Practice this at home

Double Stop Scale: Review each fingered double stop exercise 3-5 times, then put both together for the double stop scale 3 times

Old Joe Clark: Practice each section in hoedown rhythm 3-5 times cleanly, play all the way though Old Joe Clark in hoedown rhythm once or twice (max), practice the first phrase of Old Joe Clark in Hoedown Rhythm 3-5 times
