Everything you need to know about classes, registration, instrument rentals, and getting started at Bantam Studios. If you don't find what you're looking for, we're always happy to help.

  • Our teaching studio is located at 12 Park Place, Brooklyn, NY 11217, in Park Slope.

    A few things to know before visiting:

    • We have a no-shoes-indoors policy.

    • A cat and dog live on the premises.

    • The studio is up three flights of stairs, with no elevator.

  • Group classes meet weekly in sessions, typically eight weeks long. Our Beginner Program follows a structured curriculum, while the Studio Program offers ongoing technique classes and ensembles. Some ensembles include additional rehearsals leading up to a performance.

  • Our Foundations classes welcome students with little or no experience. If you've played before, you may be ready to join at a different level. Placement is based on experience and playing ability, not a fixed number of sessions.

  • Instrument rentals are always available through Bantam Studios. Students are also welcome to bring their own instruments.

    Sheet music, exercises, and other class materials are provided by the instructors.

  • Yes! We offer private lessons in person at our Park Slope studio or online via Zoom. Lessons are tailored to each student's experience and goals.

    Virtual options may also be available for group classes. Please contact us for details.

  • Most sessions conclude with a performance, ranging from intimate recitals to ensemble concerts and community events. Participation is encouraged but always optional.

    Performance dates and locations vary by session.

  • That's okay! Your instructor will send you a summary of what you missed, or you can refer to your class's weekly recap to get back on track.

    Because our studio space is very limited, we ask students to give at least 24 hours' notice when they need to miss a class. If you miss more than two classes in a session, you may need a private lesson to catch up with the rest of the group.

  • Our Pay It Forward program provides partial tuition assistance when funds are available. If cost is a barrier to participating, please contact us to learn more.
