Q: Where are classes held?

A: At the Brooklyn Music School: 126 St Felix St, Brooklyn, NY 11217

Q: Do I get to take my rental instrument home?

A: Yes, it's yours for the 8-week period of the class.

Q: I have some experience playing my instrument (Cello, Violin, Guitar, Mandolin, Ukulele), which class should i sign up for?

A: Please go to our contact page and describe your background and we will guide you in finding the appropriate class.

Q: If I have to miss class do I get a makeup?

A: Please let us know as soon as you know that you have to miss a class.  We offer office hours sessions (a 30 minute private lesson that costs $25) on a limited basis for you to book if you want one-on-one instruction on anything that was covered in class. We also send out a comprehensive class recap every week so you can catch yourself up on any material that we covered in class.

Q: Why are there two recital dates?

A: There will be two recitals, one for our beginner students and one for our advanced students. All students are welcome to attend either recital to support their fellow student. They are both free of charge and you're welcome to invite your friends and family.

Q: I have my own instrument, can it be used for class?

A: All instruments need to be in playing condition for class. Please make sure you have your instrument set up and repaired before classes start. (Allow for at least 2-3 weeks) We do not have extra instruments that you can borrow for class.

Basic Instrument Requirements:

Violins: Must have fitted pegs that can stay in tune, and a bridge carved for the instrument. A working bow that has playable hair and a shoulder rest are also required. NO ELECTRIC VIOLINS
Cellos: Must have fitted pegs that can stay in tune, and a bridge carved for the instrument. A working bow that has playable hair and a rock stop or end-pin anchor are also required.
Mandolins: Standard tuning in playable condition (has working tuners, accurate intonation and low action), no mandolas or mandocellos. Banjo-lins are acceptable. 
Ukulele: Soprano or Concert Ukulele in playable condition (has working tuners, accurate intonation and low action). Banjo-leles are acceptable.
Guitar: Standard Six String Acoustic Guitar in playable condition (has working tuners, accurate intonation and low action). Not acceptable: Electric Guitar, Tenor Guitar, Vihuela, Twelve String Guitar, other instruments in the guitar family that have a different number of strings or tuning.

Q: I'm interested and unavailable this semester.  Do you know when Future classes will be?

Q: What are your cancellation policy for registrations?

A: Refunds/Credits: If you would like to cancel a class registration, you must notify us in writing. Refunds or credits are not issued for classes not attended. 

Bantam Studios credit is valid for one year from the date of issue. It cannot be redeemed for cash. Refunds or credits will be issued based on the date of written class cancellation, as follows:

Cancellation before the Sunday of the first week of class: 50% refund or 100% credit
Cancellation after the Sunday of the first week of class: No refund, 100% credit
Cancellation after the Sunday of the second week of class: No refund or credit
All Instrument Rentals are non-refundable.
